Educating Myself

So Here’s the Deal

He gave us a history of breast cancer and different types of surgeries, and then reviewed my options.

LOCAL: Breast Conservation (BC) with lymph node sampling either sentinel node biopsy (SNBX) or axillary lymph  node dissection (AND). These would include radiation therapy (XRT) 5 days/week for 4-6 weeks by a radiation oncologist.

SYSTEMIC: done by a medical oncologist may include chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and/or immunotherapy.

Next Steps: An MRI of both breasts, as this type of cancer (fairly rare) tends to be bilateral.. if you have one/some in one side, high probability one/some in the other breast. Results will also determine if the cancer has reached the lymph nodes.. which could travel throughout the body. This type of cancer can also spread/grow at a more rapid rate. He will call the oncologist and get me in right away, as well as have the imagining department call to have an MRI scheduled before that meeting to review results and a treatment plan.
